As Above, So Below

In July 2015, the New Horizons spacecraft will pass by Pluto. Launched in 2006, it is the fastest spacecraft ever and has been designed to investigate this distant planet, and all the other bodies in the space beyond Pluto. Although Pluto was demoted to “dwarf planet” status a few years ago, it is actually quite a large place, with a diameter of 5000 miles (8000 kms). No spacecraft has ever been able to send back information from Pluto or any of the thousands of bodies thought to be in the Kuiper Belt, which Pluto is a part of. The only detailed visual information we have of Pluto comes from the Hubble space telescope, which recently discovered a new moon orbiting Pluto, bringing the total to five, of which Charon is the largest, with a diameter half the size of Pluto, (This has led to Pluto being considered a double-planet.) The other moons are Kerberos, Styx, Nix and Hydra. Hmmm… does not sound so cozy.

Cosmic Teachings

It is probably a good thing that people are not aware of what is going through the mind of an incarnate astrologer, as we gingerly negotiate the choppy waters of time, constantly attributing meaning to events through astrological symbolism. Hardly a single event can arise, before our devious minds have assigned an astrological label to it. Meetings and plans are carefully tuned to the ongoing planetary dramas. For astrologers, it is an enriching process. For skeptics, it must seem crazy. Read More

The Amazing World of Lies

For those who like to see a good lie, the months of February and March 2013 has been a wonderful time because of the antics of Mercury, which we will take a look at later. Of course the best liar in the world was Mercury, who as Hermes, could speak and create mischief from the moment he was born and as a baby famously stole Apollo’s herd of cattle and lied about it. We’ve been pretty much doing the same thing ever since.  On any given day one in ten verbal interactions with a spouse contains a lie, and if you think that’s bad, if we are just have a girlfriend or boyfriend, one in every three verbal interactions is a lie. Men lie predominately to cover up something about themselves, whilst women lie predominantly to cover up something about someone else.  Studies have shown that strangers lie three times within the first 10 minutes of meeting (Note 1). Mixed Blessings of Neptune

In 1846 a new gas was all the rage amongst doctors and dentists in Europe and America. Oddly enough this gas had been synthesized as long ago as 1275 and later by Paracelsus in the 16th century, but it was in the late 1840’s that its anesthetic properties were discovered and used in medical procedures. On December 19th 1846 the first recorded use of ether in an operation in Britain took place, just three months after the discovery of Neptune. (Note 1) The meaning of ether is “heavenly”. Read More

Loves me, loves me not

One of the main reasons a client comes to see an astrologer is in connection with relationships. It is not always easy to work out whether a new love will develop, or an old love will end using techniques like transits and progressions. However, if the astrologer uses the consultation chart, it is a lot easier. All the actors in the drama reveal themselves in the chart for the arrival of the client. Once you have identified the planetary significators for the players, you can simply follow the planetary movement, and the advice you are then able to give will be invaluable for the client. 2014 – The Year Ahead

A high proportion of educated people in the West read or have at one time regularly read their sunsign horoscopes, and 75% of the are women. Sunsigns are simply based on the position of the sun at birth, which will be in one of the 12 signs, which are then evenly distributed in the population.  (Note 1) In the USA 33% of people actually believe in astrology, which may account for the fact that there are several millions websites dealing with the subject. Most of these people – that would be around 100 million – believe in astrology on the basis of sunsigns alone. Read More

David Cameron and the future of Britain

Some people are born lucky. Perhaps the British aristocracy has a special arrangement with the Cosmos, so that they are born into privilege according to the tradition of Divine Right, where the kings of England were chosen by God. At any rate, the British Prime Minister David Cameron has managed very well. With a lineage that can be traced back to King William IV who became King in 1830 Cameron was born into a rich and aristocratic family, went to the best schools, ending up in Eton, and finally graduated from Oxford with a first class honors degree in politics and economy. Embarrassing truths – and how to present them

The art of the astrological consultation has many facets.  First there has to be a mastery of the symbols and imagery of astrology – the signs and houses, the aspects, and the dynamic elements of transits and progressions for example. This could be compared to learning a language like Chinese, with its rich and symbolic pictograms, and perhaps it takes just as long to learn both subjects. If your study of astrology inspires you in the direction of taking clients, then a whole new set of skills have to be learned. For you may know how to explain the horoscope to people, but will you make a positive difference to the way they run their lives?  (Note 1) Read More

Francois Hollande and France

Perhaps it was not easy for Francois Hollande in his early years of politics, being married to the charismatic and popular Segolene Royale, who rose up in the ranks of socialist politics in France only to lose the presidential election to Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007. He was always seen as the secondary partner in that political marriage until very recently, and that cannot feel so good for a Leo. Then things changed for the man who the French media viewed as Mr. Normal and rather boring. He separated from Segolene Royale in 2007 and forged his own way to become the socialist party candidate, winning the presidency against Sarkozy in May 2012. Read More

The Future of the Dollar

Much was made of the August 1999 eclipse at the time, not least connected with the prophecies of Nostradamus, but when the eclipse actually occurred, the world did not end, at least not unless you lived in Izmit, Turkey, where an earthquake took place 5 days later killing about 17,000 people. (Note 1) Nevertheless, eclipses are said to sensitize degrees for years after they have taken place. The 1999 eclipse occurred at 18.21 Leo, whilst Venus was retrograde at 2 degrees Virgo. Several weeks later Venus moved stationary direct on the eclipse degree, which must have made that position extra sensitive. At least when Venus returned to that exact spot two years later – 18.24 Leo – the World Trade Center crumbled into dust.
